So Jieun's mom has a tiny apartment in Seoul that she also uses as an office. That's where we stayed. The great thing about Korea is that everything is cutting edge. Like, there are plasma screen TVs everywhere, seems like everyone has one. Also, I think it's well known, but Korea has like the highest rate of broadband in the world, something like that. Anyway, yeah, her apartment, not super upscale, but it had WiFi, and we used it quite a bit.
Other random Korea apartment notes: there are no garbage disposal machines in the sinks anywhere. Apparently some government official or whatever started this huge recycling campaign a while back, so everyone takes their trash to recycling bins in front of their apartments. Food waste is also collected in one of the containers to be used to feed pigs, something like that. But yeah, very little is actually thrown away, most everything is recycled.
Another thing I found funny was certain mornings a guy walks around the neighborhood yelling in a deep voice "sehtak" (I think that's the pronunciation, my Korean is awful so I mangle everything). It was the oddest thing I'd ever heard, I found out it means laundry or something, he's a guy going around collecting laundry. I did that voice a lot while I was in Korea.
Anyway, I'm kind of posting this pic to show what my hair looked like when I first got there. Jieun's mom hates how I part it down the middle. And my glasses. Everyone despises my nerd style.
